Following a car wreck on Saturday September 17, a Starkville resident died in hospital.
According to authorities, the accident happened on Highway 72 in Colber County, Alabama not far from Tuscumbia.
Grant Spradling, aged 41, was on his way to Nashville, Tennessee with this wife Jennifer to celebrate her 40th birthday. Prior to the journey they dropped off their three children who are aged eight 13 and 17 with family. As they were driving, a truck which was travelling eastbound, hydroplaned, hit the median and then caught fire, colliding with Spradling’s vehicle. Jennifer Spradling was not injured in the crash but Grant was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where he died a few days later.
Jennifer is a former teacher who now owns a refurbished furniture store in downtown Starkville called Southern Chalk.
The accident is still under investigation and so far no charges have been filed.
