Man Died Following a Police Chase And Crash

On Thursday, July 9 a man died following a police chase and crash.

According to Alabama State Troopers, 45 year old Sean Dawson Brooks was being chased by a Shelby County sheriff’s deputy when he crashed into an SUV on County 41 at Hawthorne Street.
Brooks was taken to University of Alabama hospital in Birmingham where he died less than an hour later at just after 8.30 p.m.

Those in the SUV were also injured and 38 year old William Mark Numnum and his passenger who was 28 year old Tammie Denis Smith of Chelsea were both also taken to hospital. Numnum was not wearing a seat belt and he was seriously injured having been ejected from the vehicle.

The police have not provided any information concerning the chase, but have said that the deputy was acting within the scope of his duties. They went on the say that their hearts and prayers were with those involved and their families and that they were continuing with the investigation.
