How Teenage Drivers Can Stay Safe

It is a sad fact that teenage drivers have more auto accidents than any other age group but there are many different safe driving tips which can prevent an accident.

First, it is vital that the teen is not distracted as distracted driving is one of the main causes of accidents involving teens. This includes not using the cell phone for talking or texting and not eating, drinking, playing with the DVD player, flipping the radio dial or playing music loudly. All of these can cause distractions, take eyes off the road or cause the mind to wander. It only takes a second to be involved in a fatal collision and all concentration must remain on the road at all times.

Teens are especially at risk as they have less experience and therefore need to concentrate more.

It has been shown that teens which have just one single passenger in the car, double their risk of having an accident. In addition, the more passengers which are carried, the more the risk. Wherever possible drive alone, and if there are passengers in the vehicle, ask them to behave responsibly and not interrupt while you are concentrating on driving.
