On Saturday, March 19, a two vehicle crash left five people dead.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. on U.S. 80 at the 185 mile marker near Macon County 24.
A 2002 Mazda Tribute being driven by 31 year old Curtis Jay McCurdy of Opelika collided with 21 year old Leuis Duque of Georgia driving a Ford Edge. The Ford caught on fire after the accident and the Mazda overturned.
McCurdy was killed along with two passengers, 26 year old Kyla Yarbrough and 36 year old Michele Smith both of Tuskegee. Two passengers in the Ford, 25 year old Luciano Tovar and29 year old Jorge Banda, both of Georgia were also killed. Duque survived and was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
All of the victims were declared dead at the scene.
Alabama State Troopers are investigating the crash.
