High School Senior Dies in Double Accident

On Friday, September 25, a senior at Minor High School, Birmingham died following a double accident.

According to authorities the accident happened at around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 78 and Dugan Avenue.

Amber Stevenson, aged 17, from Forestdale was with her 15 year old brother in a Honda vehicle driven by her mother. In another vehicle, a Suzuki, there was a 17 year old female driver and another girl, also 17 from Trussville with an adult male passenger. The two vehicles collided with each other and they came to a standstill in traffic lanes. Both girls got out of their vehicles to inspect the damage when a Lexus, driven by a 64 year old man, swerved to avoid the wreck striking them both. The girls were taken to UAB Hospital where Stevenson died from her injuries the following day. The other occupants of the vehicles were not injured and the Trussville girl is expected to recover from her injuries.

According to the Sheriff’s office the driver of the Lexus that struck the girls was extremely upset at the terrible tragedy. After turning over their findings to the District Attorney’s office investigators do not expect any charges to be filed.
